Ince Application Process

Ince encourages applications from graduates and established professionals. Job vacancies can be viewed via Ince Linkedin, or on its Careers page.

The firm recruits on a rolling basis so, once you have found a suitable role that interests you, submit your initial application as soon as possible.

The Ince application process is multi-stage and involves an online application, a critical thinking test, a video interview, and an assessment day – which itself involves several group activities and a final interview with a partner.

Ince Online Application Form

The application form requires prospective employees to upload a covering letter and their CV.

The covering letter should strongly convey your motivation for a career in law at Ince, displaying your enthusiasm for both the sector and the firm. It should also highlight any particularly relevant responsibilities, achievements, or experience.

Your CV should detail your work history and academic qualifications. To increase your chances of being shortlisted, take the time to tailor your CV to the role for which you are applying.

Ensure you proofread all documents in your application carefully before submission, to avoid any unnecessary mistakes. It may help to get a fresh pair of eyes (such as a family member or friend) to have a look. Attention to detail is a critical skill in legal work, so your application needs to be free from errors.

Ince Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Test

The Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Assessment is an online aptitude test that indicates a candidate's ability to logically approach tasks, analyse and evaluate information, and come to evidence-based conclusions.

The critical thinking test involves multiple passages of text. For each, you are required to read and interpret the information, and then answer a series of related questions. All questions need to be completed within a 30-minute time limit.

The test is split into sections, each measuring a different aspect of your logical reasoning ability. The sections are:

  • Drawing inferences
  • Recognising assumptions
  • Deduction
  • Interpretation
  • Evaluation of arguments

The 40 questions that comprise the test are all multiple-choice. They must be answered both quickly and accurately to achieve a high score and progress in the hiring process.

To prepare for the assessment, take practice tests and review your performance each time. This helps to identify any areas of weakness so you can prioritise your time. It also increases familiarity with the style, format, and content of the questions, along with the pace required for the official test.

Ince Video Interview

The next stage of the process is a video interview. For this, applicants are asked to record and submit answers to a series of question prompts. After receiving the link to the online interview software, you will be able to practice recording an answer before beginning the interview.

There will only be a short amount of time given to record each question. Your answers, therefore, need to be well-structured and concise.

Prepare a range of strong examples from your experience, so you have a selection of evidence to choose from to back up your responses. This means that, whatever the question, you'll be ready to give a solid answer.

The video interview is an opportunity to convey your personality to the recruitment team, alongside your skills and competencies. Try to remain calm and relaxed on camera, paying attention to your eye contact and body language.

Record the interview in a quiet environment, free from distraction, and ensure you are in front of a neutral background. Also, consider your clothing – you'll want to come across as smart and professional.

The video can be recorded on any device with a camera or webcam, to allow for flexibility.

Ince Assessment Day

If you impress at the video interview stage, you will be invited to partake in an assessment day. This may be online or in-person, depending on the circumstances.

The assessment day involves a group pitching exercise, a legal drafting task, and a final interview with a firm partner and a member of the recruitment team.

Ince Group Pitching Exercise

Ince wants to see first-hand that you can work well in collaboration with others. Success of work at the firm centres around building strong client and colleague relationships, so you'll need to be a team player to impress the recruiters.

Make sure you actively contribute to the task and display your potential but ensure you also listen well and keep an open mind to the suggestions of others.

The drafting task assesses the level of your written communication. It is important to write in a clear and concise manner, with acute attention to detail. The task will be timed, so you'll need to absorb and synthesise information quickly.

Ince Final Interview

For the interview, ensure you have done your research on Ince, on the responsibilities of the job role, and on any developments in the sector. During the interview, you will be assessed on your level of commercial awareness.

Remember to review your covering letter before the interview, as you will likely be asked about the points you raised.

Don't be afraid of taking a few moments to think about your answers before responding. Considered, well-structured responses are far more impactful than rushed professions caused by nerves.

An interview should be a two-way process, so prepare a few questions to ask your interviewer. An insightful question can adeptly display your knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, the job role in question.
